In January 2024, we conducted a trial in a pig farm to verify the effectiveness of our product PhytoShield in powder form, which is a premixture of essential oils, plant extracts, phytochemicals and vitamins.

PhytoShield was added to feed in order to improve pork quality. This trial proved that PhytoShield can effectively improve the quality and taste of pork.

Trial design

Trial animals: Fattening pigs, one month before marketing, 1000 animals in each the trial and the control group.

  • Trial group: PhytoShield in powder form was continuously used from one month before marketing, at a dose of 1 kg/ton of feed.
  • Control group: Normal feed.

All the other health, nutritional and management parameters, as well as the environmental conditions, were the same for both groups.

Results

From the results, it was observed that the trial group had less cooking loss and drip loss, indicating that the trial group had better water holding capacity.

The malonaldehyde content of the trial group was 5.42% lower than that of the control group, indicating that the oxidation degree of pork in the trial group was lower.

The 24-hour pH change in the trial group was also smaller, indicating that the pork quality in the trial group was better.

According to the tasting data, the taste of pork in the trial group was significantly better than that in the control group.

Conclusions

This trial proved that Phytoshield in powder form, used in fattening pigs one month before marketing, can effectively improve pork quality and taste.
