When hens face high temperatures, their reproductive systems are among the first to be affected. Heat stress lowers essential hormones—progesterone, testosterone, and 17β-estradiol—which are crucial for ovulation, follicle development, and egg formation. It also damages granulosa cells that support egg development and reduces the size of ovaries and the number of mature follicles, leading to fewer and smaller eggs.
